fixed penalty notice

    Hi all,
I failed a breath test recently, first ever offence and completely devastated, and have been informed I will be receiving a fixed penalty notice in the coming days for €400 and 6 months disqualification from driving. I was informed by the guard that if I accept the FPN and pay within the 28 day time frame there will be no conviction or record as such.
My query is, since there is no conviction or record, do I need to inform my insurance company??? Also, will an endorsement be attached to my license and if so for how long???
My insurance period encompasses the time off the road.
All constructive advice is very much welcome,
    Thanks

Yes, the T & Cs of you insurance policy obliges you to inform them. Of course you can cancel the insurance, as you cannot avail of it once the disqualification kicks in. That will also depend on how long is left in the policy.

    Thanks, Kris.
My insurance has just started for the year. I don't want to act the mick with this and would rather do what is right. The guard was under the impression I don't need to inform anyone as it will not be a conviction. I'm not sure about this but if I don't need to....well then I don't need to. Any idea on the endorsement question????
    Thanks

if you receive a driving ban .. this is an endorsement; and I am quite sure your insurance company's policy documents say that there is a requirement for you to declare any endorsements on your license.

Sound out. Thanks for that. How long does the endorsement stay on the license??
