    Hi All,

Have been a lurker on here for a while but wanted to join you guys if thats ok.

My story is my periods stopped years ago, have had ultasound, HSG, lap+dye, bloods etc with no answer to why this happened. I havent gotten my period back naturally but it does come back with the pill/HRT but once I stop using it they are gone again.

We are planning on doing TSI/OI this summer, so nervous about it all. I guess if OI doesnt work we will go onto IUI. Really hoping it doesnt come to IVF as I havent a clue how we would afford that.

I dont see similiar stories on here so if anyone is in the same boat I would love to hear your stories. I dont even know how we start the first month as I wont have a day one. Maybe I just start or go onto pill/HRT the month before. Must call the doctor!

Anyway, hi and thanks for reading!

Hi there - I was in a similar situation - my period never came back after a spell on the pill. I was given clomid - but first I had to take provera (progesterone) to bring on a bleed and then started the clomid on day 2. The first month it was slow to get going but i did ovulate eventually. I had to have regular scans from around day 10 on to track my lining and the growth of the follicle. I'm sure you've had internal scans before so it will be no bother to you - just the hassle of skipping out of work.

I had to "skip" the next month as I was away during the middle of my "cycle" but amazingly I got my period after 29 days! Clomid seemed to kickstart things which was great! The following month I did another OI cycle and ovulated around day 14. No luck again but because I had been having good results with only 1 egg being released (which is ideal) my clinic let me off to do an untracked clomid cycle. That was great as the only cost was the clomid (super cheap) and some ovulation sticks - and even better - it worked! Unfortunately I had a miscarriage but my period returned afterwards and I did 2 more cycles (first tracked, second untracked) and got pregnant again on the second. It ended in another miscarriage sadly - but again regular cycles returned afterwards and around 2 cycles later I got pregnant naturally and the result will no doubt be waking me up several times tonight as he does every night! So it worked for me as it kickstarted my hormones to get working again.

It really is a very easy process so don't be nervous. Hopefully it will be all you need too. Has your OH had his semen analysis done as it's important to know this is okay before you start? Best of luck x

Thank you so much for the reply.

Yes semen has been checked and is fine. He prescribed Gonal F for me, not Clomid. Also said I would just start taking it and count that as day three seeing as I won't have my period. I need to call and confirm as I don't fancy paying for drugs and scans for a month if it's just to get a period so I can do it next month!

I've never had an internal scan done, didn't know that's what was needed! Thought it was a regular ultasound!

Okay Gonal F is an injection so not as simple as Clomid - but it's a pen injection and once you get the first one over you will be fine - it's the thought of it more than anything. The good thing with the injectables is that you can vary the dose during the cycle if needed so that's a real positive.

There is no reason why starting on a random day should be any problem - it just depends on the protocol of the clinic. They will probably tell you not to have unprotected sex for the 2 weeks before starting as obviously the drugs are harmful if pregnant. The provera/pill don't do anything except ensure you're not pregnant. Even my consultant said that it was a bit of a pointless step in my case - so your first cycle will be a proper one.

Internal scans are grand - completely painless and it's amazing to see things in such detail. You will be dying to see how thick your lining is and if you have a promising follicle! The nurses do loads of them every morning so just remember that. Get going as soon as you can - it's great to have hope again as I know how difficult it is when you have no cycle.

The thoughts of the injections don't bother me, wouldn't be looking forward to them but it's a minor step. Scans will freak me out more I think!

Thanks again, it's great to get reassurance that it can work. It's a daunting process.

Lashes, I did TSI in 2011, my posts on the chat thread should have a lot of info on my experience. Start here. Yours might differ slightly with different meds, but if you have any questions feel free to ask :)

Thanks Neyite, I forgot to come back to this, I just read 50 pages on from where you linked me too and I cried when you got your positive test!

OH is away with work for a few days, its the only time I get a chance to come back to boards to research and it just gets me down so much.

Hoping to start treatment in May but need to get started on folic acid etc. I have osteopenia also so want to go to the chemist and get recommendations on vits to take etc so I dont go overboard.
