Anybody have any experience with the above ? been quoted 180 to update my place of residence on my car insurance . I've only moved from dublin 6 to 12.. Seems a bit excessive

Any replies would be greatly appreciated

180 just to update the address? Yes, that would be excessive.

If you mean they want to add 180 to your premium because they presumably think the car is more likely to be nicked or burnt out in Dublin 12 than 6, then start shopping around for other quotes.

well yes the latter .. Policy is currently running so if I did decide to cancel how would this work ? in relation to no claims bonus and the rest ?

Hi, as far as i know you will lose your no claims. Any previous FULL years will still count just not this year. If you have just started your policy then i recommend cancel and change insurers but if you are half way through then prob best pay the 180 and stick it out to get the extra year no claims.

They probably have stats that shows the new area you moved to has a higher risk of car vandalism or theft than your previous abode. Your annual premium is based on that level of risk. There is also probably an admin fee included in that price too.

Would an insurance company really not pay out for not notifying them of a change of address?

they usual charge an admin fee to change details on a policy, so the extra cost may not all be down to the new location.

Anybody know what the ramifications would be if I didnt change the address and then had to make a claim ?

The cost and level of cover provided by your insurance company is based on detailed full disclosure of information you provide them. If any of this information changes then legally you would be obliged to inform your insurance company.

Most policy small print have paragraphs of legal jargon about having full disclosure of information and how not disclosing this information could have implications on any claim made at a later date. Personally I would not give the insurance company an easy route to contesting such a claim.

    Up to you really.

But if the insurance quoted you refund of €180 you wouldn't asked them not to give it back.. Some areas have high theft claims etc thus could one of many reasons
