There is no legal entitlement to bereavement leave in Ireland. (ref: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/employment_rights_and_conditions/leave_and_holidays/types_of_leave_from_work.html)

Your employment contract or staff handbook probably allows for some paid bereavement leave in certain circumstances (three days for a spouse, child, parent is pretty common). Look at it to see what it says about other relatives.

After that, you can apply for leave, either annual (ie paid) or unpaid depending on how much leave-balance you have, and what the company's policies are.

Your employer isn't required to give it to you - though many are decent and will approve leave if they possibly can, even though it's usually at very short notice.

    Sorry for your loss.
