Small family car

I've had an 05 Focus Estate 1.6 diesel for the last 4 years and mileage is up to 230 KM.

From reading on here so far I've had a lucky escape with it, apart from a few electrical issues, but I make sure to get it serviced regularly. Now the clutch has failed, and the mechanic advises to do the flywheel too as he says they tend to go within months of each other, and it's a smaller job if done together with the clutch.

My thoughts are that it's time to start looking for a replacement later in the year. I'd have about €5 - €6 K ish to spend, looking for something reliable and cheap to run and maintain.

Gone past the stage of 4 litre V12's and can't afford them anyway. Don't need an estate anymore either as the kids are older. Probably do about 10k miles a year, mostly school runs and a 20 mile return trip once a week, and the odd longer trip once a month or so. Need something that will last about 5 years without major trouble.

I was thinking something Jap like a petrol Suzuki SX4 - timing chain, should be reliable? Would go Toyota but seems expensive. Any other suggestions?

Honda Jazz - reliable, practical, good on fuel and still has plenty of space inside for passengers.

This example would not be too far outside your budget:

Yeah tbh, I'd go with Toyota. They are a bit on the pricey side, but you pay for quality. My Corolla is 15 years old, it's been in my family for about 10 of those years, and we've never really had any issues, apart from the usual-new tyres, brake pads etc. Power steering started leaking last year, got it sorted. No issues at all.

Best affordable car out there by a mile.

Honda civic is a nice car and reliability isn't an issue. You would have alot of change out of 5k too for a decent one. 1.4 is a little dead though. Nice red one for sale in Waterford at the moment on dd with moderate mileage etc. Can't link it on this phone.
