seems that Charlie is not alone, Joanna Morgan is fed up of not making money either

the big boys will get bigger, whilst the small trainers struggle until it no longer makes sense, yet Brian Kavanagh and the HRI believe racing in Ireland is in a healthy state

I recall a day being in ballinrobe at the far side of the parade ring away from the stands which was by far the quieter side, she was walking the 3rd fav around and some ould buck sitting on the seat surrounding the parade ring on her third lap finally broke the silence and enquired "does he have chance Joanna?", to which she had a quick look around, only to see me and the questioner, and shield by the horse, gave the nod. the ould fella beside quickly rose to his feet and made haste to the betting ring to chuck on a score. Horse duly popped in at 9/2 or something. She seemed a decent skin.

Think she got badly burned like a lot of them when the country went belly up, having said that she's near retirement age anyway. Was delighted to see her get the win at ascot. Wish her the best.

Interestingly, she seems to indicate that if it wasn't for the bad debts, it would have paid and she has 15 horses. Admittedly, seems that she was doing a fair amount of work for that but as I said on the Charlie Swan thread, different people have different ideas on what level of wages/profit they should get out of a business.

There are trainers out there with 20 horses being paid on time by owners (crucially) that are making a wage out of it and the prizemoney (and hope to find a good one) is the upside. There are others whose upside comes from buying and selling as their horses are not prizemoney winners.

Shame to see her retire - had some good winners in the UK down the years....
