Twenty new jobs will be created following the launch today of Irish TV’s new Munster regional hub in Tralee.
The jobs were announced by Minister for Diaspora Affairs Jimmy Deenihan who opened the offices at the Kerry Technology Park.
Kerry broadcaster Brian Hurley has been appointed as Munster Regional Manager for Irish TV and he will be responsible for all programming from the region.
“Our ethos is to showcase local stories, businesses, tourism and communities to a local and global audience, and we believe in being on the ground in each county which are managed through regional offices,” said Irish TV CEO Pierce O’Reilly.
“Kerry’s standing as a centre of international tourism as well as access to skilled multimedia graduates from IT Tralee and Kerry ETB were key factors in our decision to locate in Tralee, and we will be producing a range of programmes from our regional office, in addition to our County Matters shows from the six Munster counties.
“Tralee joins our other regional office locations in Mayo and Tyrone. As we are the only Irish TV channel to broadcast in the UK, we have regional headquarters in London and Manchester, with new offices scheduled to open this month in Birmingham and in the US.
“It has been a very exciting first eight months for Irish TV as we have watched our programming output and viewership grow since our launch in May.
Households in Ireland have access to Irish TV on Sky TV 191, Freesat 400, eircom eVision 191 and online at irishtv.com.
Irish TV expects to be available on the Saorview platform in March, and is currently in negotiations with a range of overseas networks.

Well I guess if nothing else they're proving all their detractors (myself included) wrong. At least in the short-term.
Intrigued as to how they're actually making money, in so far as enough money to keep the doors open!

I don't think they care about Irish TV, they're not exactly after their audience...

No mention of a Saorview launch in the interview. Jimmy mc gee has his own show coming up on Irish TV. He will be talking to his sporting heroes. That will be interesting.

Interesting to note the multiple tv platforms they are already carried on along with their intentions to come to Saorview in March. However; no reference anywhere of IRISH TV launching on the UPC Ireland/Horizon digital cable tv platform. I wonder why all the others but not UPC ?

IMO I think UPC are basically saying to IrishTV if your not on Saorview your not on UPC.

Not sure where you are getting that idea from: there are hundreds of channels, including several Irish ones (TG4 HD, UTV HD, Setanta and - if it's still going, I haven't checked in a while - DCTV) that are on UPC but not Saorview.

AFAIK UPC were slightly forced to put DCTV/CCTV on and they don't really want to have them, AFAIK DCTV is defunct, slightly, not sure whats happening with it. You forgot OTV but I have a feeling that OTV paid UPC for services. TG4HD was to give Horizon an extra HD channel that Sky did not offer, when Sky had more HD services, UPC wouldn't have let sky take UTViHD alone after all they just lost the exclusivity to that channel. Setanta is a PayTV service so UPC are making something from that.

Also their attitude toward Bubble Hits.

That my reading of each of the Irish channels on UPC, the rest are on Saorview.

First day but generally when talking about Saorview when they say march they mean the 31st

But TBH if Irish TV is to be added it will be announce a few weeks in advance, if we hear nothing it won't appear on Saorview this year.
