If you follow the likes of Dublin Mountain Partnership and the Irish Ramblers Club on Facebook, they often put up route maps of their hikes. Also look at Coillte Outdoors website for maps you can print out.

    Grand job thanks for that.

Maps? Look up our site www.eastwestmapping.ie - available mail order or check out Great Outdoors, 53Degrees North, Easons etc.

There's a couple of good books available (e.g. Collins Press) for routes. Joining a club is also a good way to learn new & sometimes unusual routes.

The eastwest maps are the best walking maps covering the Wicklows incl massive information on place names and heritage sites. Use them all the time and there are no better walking maps covering any other area in Ireland. Just simply the scale of 1:25 k is perfect for walkers.

Agree re: the maps, but FYI they're actually 1:30k.

Agree re the maps but not for the scale - it's the areas they cover. OS maps cut off at grids and those grids can divide a walk. Lug is the perfect example - if you're coming from Donard you need two maps. EW maps are not tied to the national grid and cover regions of interest to that a hike is fully covered in one map.

Aye - the EastWest maps are best for wicklow, with the Harveys wicklow map coming up a close second. I just wish there was a fifth map covering such areas as Avoca and Tinahely and so on.

According to Barry's E-W Mapping Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/693816783963064/photos/a.810546922290049.1073741830.693816783963064/912346162110124/?type=1&theater) there's an idea for a map to fill in the 'bottom right corner' of the area covered by the existing 4 maps. It looks like that would cover areas like Clara Vale nature reserve, and maybe even go down as far as Avoca, but not sure if it'd cover Tinahely.

Hi Alun, I was looking at it again recently and even at 1:30,000 scale, I think it would require two sheets. The first covering from Wicklow town southwards to Arklow and the second running west from Arklow to Shillelagh / Tinahely and north to Aughavannagh..

I'd happily settle for that! Clara Vale / Avoca / Wicklow head would be great. to be honest Tinahely is reasonable well covered by the local walk maps (in fact they look like east-west map products).

I agree too. Clara Vale nature reserve is a maze of tracks and a decent map would be a real boon there. Plus as you say, the various trails around Tinahely are already covered in the walk guides.
