Hi guys, sorry if this is the wrong place to post. I have Vodafone and I'm seriously done with them, ping at the moment is 200+ across all servers in Europe and on my 4G phone tethered to my desktop they're around 70ish, it's completely unacceptable and UPC is not available in my area so Eircom is the only other choice, anyone have any problems? I just want ping under 60 and I'll be more than happy, when Vodafone works I get about 40 which is incredible.

Not sure about Eircom ( I am on UPC ), but even my 60mb package sees me at around 60-80ms while playing CS:GO. Sometimes, I drop to around ~45ms, but for the most part, it is 60-80ms. However, the 200ms is quite high. It could be contention? Are you playing in the evening during high traffic? What is your ping like at, say, 11am on a Saturday or Sunday?

Yeah it does seem to be an issue at peak times but really only Counter Strike, Battlefield isn't affected one bit whatsoever. Sometimes it's around 40/50ms which is perfect and last night around 11pm it was 35ms but at 10pm the same night it was around 180ms.

Could I ask you a favour, could you ping this IP 146.66.152.9 it's one of the EU West servers and I'm getting about 100ms on it now, want to see what you on UPC would get.

EDIT: Also I just checked there and I get the same ping to US East servers as I do the EU West servers which is ridiculous.

    Minimum: 42ms and Maximum: 49ms.

It is a bit odd, alright. You could get in touch with Vodafone and see if they can check for a fault on your line. You using Wireless or Wired connection to your PC?

I was upgraded to fibre recently and it all seemed lovely and I was getting those ping times but as of now it's gone to hell. I have good ping to EU East servers, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! thanks for doing the ping test btw I really appreciate it, I think I'm just going to switch to Eircom.

EDIT: Also I'm using a LAN cable to my router.

im in Vodafone and while its gone from 11ms to 31 to boards.ie since i upgraded from 60Mb to 90Mb its fine.

You should post this in the broad band forum, check your upstream/downstream CRC.
e.g im up for 36 days and have the following
    Downstream CRC 343
    Upstream CRC 35

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

run a traceroute to one of the servers. I just picked a random german one there:
    https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/176.57.141.141:27515/

    so in command prompt type:

    tracert 176.57.141.141

It might reveal from the name of the hops if you are getting routed through the US or something crazy like that.

Do you know are you on Vodafone's own infrastructure or is it piggybacking of Eircom? I don't even know if Vodafone have their own infrastructure, I'm pretty sure its Eircom.

There has been numerous areas and instances where customers are sold these new fibre packages and all dumped onto an infrastructure that can't support them, then they move onto the next area.

I had 8 months of a 12 month contract with Magnet, piggybacking on Eircoms infrastructure, where the internet was absolutely dire. Nothing but hassle. ended up moving back to a UPC catchment area and I'll never move away again.

In the Donabate instance, they came in, rolled out "E-Fibre" for 20% of the area, then moved on. They list Donabate as Fibre enabled but it's not, and their crews are so tightly scheduled rolling out across the country there is little resourcing for business as usual.

What I would say is that if your ping is gash in only CSGO, its most likely an issue there. Make sure you've the relevant ports open for whatever CSGO/Steam uses, and check stuff like your config file to make sure youve nothing mental going on.

If your ping is fine in other games and only CSGO acting up, likely not a ISP problem, unless they have some mad throttling or something.

I feel your pain my friend! Im from Galway aswell and am blessed with Vodafones horrific service! CS GO is unplayable, and unfortunately I've a slight addiction! Poor latency is a serious disadvantage in CS GO. Ping is never lower than 90 for me. And it seriously spikes at times. My record is 1200. After 12 you can get decent 80ms ping if you are lucky. Recently I've been disconnecting from games and had to reconnect repeatedly.

Vodafone use the same lines as Eircom. Twice I've had Eircom Engineers out to check for issues that Vodafone Customer service said were "on the line" but they didn't exist.

Ive looked into changing and if you are anywhere near Loughrea, LightNet are an option. I will hopefully be getting them in in the next week or so. I cant handle Vodafone any longer. I've done a check on LightNets Ping and got 60ms on a server i play regularly which was a 30 ms improvement.
