    Do i need planning permission for a chalet house or log cabin

    Yes. 100%.
    You also need to meet the current Buding Regulations for a new dwelling Part A to Part M.
    You also will need to comply with the current Building Contril Act and the new Health And Safety Regulations for home owners carrying it works at their home.

    So basically it is the same as planning for a normal bild of a brick house

    Yes. Normal house and normal planing regulations apply but more importantly normal building regulations apply.
