What is the story with bringing Electrical items over to USA? I have heard you can not bring hair dryers/ hair appliances in general over as they will blow.

Will phone & camera chargers be ok? Also Ipad chargers? ...

    Thanks in advance. :)

Have a look at the adaptors, anything that has 100-240v on it will be fine for US power.

I've bought iPhone and regular chargers before, and they've been fine.

Phone, camera, iPad etc chargers will be fine. You will need to get a US adapter for them, as Irish three pronged plugs will not plug into two pronged US power sockets.

As others have said, chargers will work fine with an adaptor.

With regards to hair straighteners etc, a few years ago i went to Walmart and bought a pair of straighteners and a hair dryer for around $15 each. They've been a great investment - I take them with me everytime I visit the US.

OP, are you emigrating or going on a holiday? It's virtually certain that any of your appliances which involve a powerful motor and/or heater is 230V only so will not work in the US - it won't 'blow' by the way, that happens to US appliances brought over here. If you brought your hair dryer for example, if it worked at all, the motor would run at half speed and you'd get feck all heat out of it so it's simply not worth bringing it with you. ditto any other appliance that has a single number for the voltage in the range of 220-240V.

Most chargers for phones/cameras etc. that you get on this side of the Atlantic are multivoltage (100-240V) so they will work in the US but as advised, you will need to get a travel adapter to convert the UK three-pin plug to a US (two flat pins) plug.

    Thank you for the advice.
No i am not emigrating. Just going on a 10 day holiday. My camera charger & phone charger are both 100v-240v so they should be fine. I will buy an adapter soon. :)

Great, just be aware that most Americans don't even have a passport, let alone travel to Europe much so if you're buying a gadget over there which involves a battery and a mains charger, make sure that it comes with an 'international' charger. Otherwise it will be 110V only and will not work back here. All Apple stuff is fine, just be careful with other brands.

They will need to be very cheap because there's no point in bringing them home!

You can buy a Revlon hairdryer for as little as nine bucks in Walmart. ( What's that in euros, about 7.50? )

Only thing is, you don't normally find Walmarts in downtown areas or in touristy areas. They tend to be out in the burbs and you need a car to get to them, which not all tourists will have.
