Quick query on a bumper nudge

I had a slight bumper knock in town yesterday in mums car pulling out of a parking space - barely a rub car to car, and a barely noticable bumper scruff on either car, notified police and made sure to mention to other driver.

I know I did right things, and am hoping that I have nowt to worry about, but as I have never have had a bump before ever, am needless to say crapping it in general.

Given it is a barely noticable job on either car (mum hasn't noticed on our car it is that minor a nudge).

I was more panicked cos of a random bystander coming over and trying to get involved and tell me what to do in honesty...

What do I do next, if anything...

What did other car owner say?
They may claim off insurance or do you have numbers as you could ring and ask if they want fixed to keep off insurance.

well the ladies husband was to call back today, no word yet, and I tried ringing, no answer. in fairness, it is just a re-wax of the scuff, so hopefully if I do not hear otherwise....

Well done on doing the honest thing.
Fella might only be able to get quotes in the morning.
Did you take pictures of the damage?
Could be a couple hundred euro could be a deep polish.

Tell your mother it's her insurance policy she'll get the call off them.

I didnt have photos of the damage, as no camera, and the damage wouldnt show up on a photo it was that minor... and as I said initially, I was more distressed at the time because there was a woman that wasn't involved getting in my face telling me what to do... or she would call the police on me

It depends on the other driver. Most would buff it out and even if it doesn't, not worry too much about it. It's only a scratch. If we claimed every time we got a minute scratch, we wouldn't have time to do anything else.
Others would strip the car down, put it on a jig to make sure it's not warped, get all new wings and bumper and have the rest of the car resprayed and present you with a bill for €10k. There are people like that and in that case an insurance assessor would have to take a look at the damage and mostly say something like "Excuse me, where is the damage? All I can see is a minute scratch that would T-cut out".

    One very important note:
Get a camera. Doesn't your phone have one? In that case it's better not to carry a phone from the 90's. This is the single most important thing you have to carry with you. You will need pictures, because some people might decide do bash the damaged panel with a hammer to get a bigger payout.
Keep us posted how things develop, we will try to help as much as possible, but remember, we're just a bunch of randomers on the internet, you can't trust us as far as you'll throw us. :P;):p

On people getting up in your face, tell them to jump off a pier. If they threaten you with the cops, tell them you already called them over some crazy person harrassing you. That should see them off in short order.

well I will photo my own cars "damage" for what it is worth, though there is nothing much a camera will show as I said, and I am figuring at the moment if the other driver hasnt told her husband yet, she possibly might forget it as it is so minor - as was said in the post above

additionally, I did advise the local garda barracks as soon as it happened, and informed them it was just a bumper scratch (they were able to see the cars on the town CCTV while I was on the phone)

Wow fair play. The last car I had it parked one day and upon return I see someone used it as a bumper to turn their car;no note, no message, no CCTV nothing. Now, in fairness though I'd worse damage done to the car myself, but still :pac:

You done right. Don't think you can do anything now only wait and see what progresses. If no word by Friday, you can if it's bugging you phone then for clarity so you're not worrying endlessly.
Also, I got this mini-pack from Axa before with a disposable camera, notepad & pen... inside - handy items to have in any car in the future tbh :)

Well done to you for being honest, so many others wouldn't have been,
