Going to change my disc mower this spring have a 8foot Kuhn 12 years from new the GMD model (light bed) happy enough with it but all the land is reseeded and reasonably smooth, its still in good nick but a few guys round me had the same ones and they fell apart from topping rough wish ground, one thing I was never that happy with was how cleaned it mowed/topped grand if blades were new but even after ten acres it would leave stuff behind, was thinking of going keverland but the cover frame is very light any guy s any recommendations or know of any deals on offer

Had two drum mower before and you would be changing blades every 5 acres. Think its more to do with the blades than the mower.
Anyway we have a Malone disc mower now. Cannot fault it in any way and would buy buy one again. Very sturdy and cheaper than other makes

7ft and 8ft mounted and 10ft trailed I think. Ours is a 7ft. Comes with topping skids as well.

You can get nine foot ont the three point linkage they look a good mower and I like the galv frame nut don't like that it does not fold back but they are handy money though

Bought a new Kuhn in 2013. Was tempted to buy a Malone but was told that the Malone was using an Italian bed which could not compare with the Kuhn bed and that the resale on the Kuhn would be well ahead of anything else

Paid 4300 for my kuhn hope to get 3000 for it not bad going if I get it over 7k for its replacement with a heavy bed

Heard some of the newer Kuhn beds have cracked on rougher ground ( can't verify this though) also chafing the blades still takes ages on them afaik compared to a pottinger or lely. Class pottinger lely ones to consider

I bought a new vicon 7ft last summer, they have the same bed as kneverland and it has 3 blades per disc which I think is better especially for topping at low revs

Malone bed appears to be as heavy as any of the others I looked at. Cant fault it

going to buy an 8ft mower this spring, trading in a 9ft trailed topper,
waiting on prices, but the dealers near by supply Krone, Fella, Malone or Taarup
how would these brands fair, know very little about mowers, bar what i picked up in the last week. it would need to do 200-300 ac of topping/paddocks for bales a year

What's the smallest trailed mower available? Sumthing simple for topping and mowing a few AC of silage a year.

Malone were offering a pretty good finance deal a few yrs ago, pay for it over 5 yrs, not sure that offer still exists, but worth looking into.

Ya a comer bed. There's loads of them on the go and fellas are happy with them. They say the bed is robust and easy serviced.

Malone website says the mounted discmower has a Comer Bed alright.

"Comer bed fully serviceable from top"

Stay away from a major mower... a pure disaster we had 1 and it lasted a month.. fell apart.. only good thing in it was the bed.. it was loud, poor finish, and poorly put together. . All they are is a rozmatil mower sprayed green

What's the cost of the Malone mowers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 177 ✭✭ppn

I was told by a dealer that the Malone mower is the same as the Major and more suitable for topping than cutting heavy or lying crop?

Your dealer is talking hoop or else is trying to sell you somthing more expensive.

A malone mower is capable of mowing silage.
    Happy owner.

Im shopping atm as well. Looking at kverneland center pivot. A contractor who i know has a few different makes of trailed. He said the kverneland is his best mower due to the discs being round and stuff doesnt get dragged under them, just bounces off. The center pivot one has way better steel where its attached to the tractor and supposed to float better on rough ground rather than end pivot.
