Thinking of making a move to Carraroe or a community like it in Connemara. Would love to hear more about the area, looking for somewhere really friendly and not too far from Galway, less than an hour. Interested in how welcoming the community is to outsiders (we are not from Connemara) or if anyone could recommend another area?

    Thanks

Popped in and out a few times for work. How's your Irish?

Never spent any significant time there, but you'd hear Irish nearly more than English. Seemed a friendly enough spot.

Fairly average but willing to learn ;)

Great little spot! Yes it's mainly irish speaking but have welcomed many English speakers! Have you been to the area before?

Irish is the preferred language but anyone not comfortable/confident enough with it is welcomed with open arms.

People are generally very patient and sometimes delighted to hear someone come to learn it.

If you need to get the city for work, that "inside and hour" requirement could be a bit more, depending on where in the city you need to get to and what time of the day.

Thanks for the responses. Have spent lots of time in Galway and lots of visits out this way. Plan to spend more time there this summer to get a better feel for the place.
