    Hi

I'm looking for some advise on open days in or around cork city. I'm a member of Birr GC but studying in cork and going to be down there all summer working, dont want to miss out on my golf though!!

I work shifts so would like to know comps for differents days of week.
I dont know anyone in cork who golfs so just wondering if anyone has any ideas on who i could play with. Do any of the clubs operate online time sheet where i could put name down with a member or something?

Also i'm a girl so would need to be a ladies open comp. playing off 11 atm if that makes any difference.

Looking forward to hearing some of ye're advise. thanks

Will you be interested in playing open comps at any stage or mainly just summer?

So going by the GUI website there's a few courses that have open singles each week until the end of January

    Cobh: Mon/Fri €15
    Mitchelstown: Fri/Sat/Sun €12

I'm sure more clubs will list their open fixtures as the weeks go by.

Most clubs have opens for Ladies and gents on the same day, check with the club in question though to make sure as a few run opens that are for one gender only, most clubs do have online booking, but those that don't all it takes is a quick call to the club to get a time, there is never an issue with player with strangers (unless you're a weirdo of course;), plenty of them around here, so you'd be in good company:pac::pac:), have a look here it's the most comprehensive list of open comps around.

Edit to say: handicap makes no difference and has no baring on any of the above.

Most clubs don't run opens at this time of year, usually start up in March when all clubs bar two or three will run them.

You could join a club down here as a student for 100-150, might be worth your while if you intend to play a lot of golf over the summer.

Are you in the City and do you have a car?

if I was to join a club, which would ye recommended? would need to be one where you don't need members signatures to join.

live in the city and I do drive and have no problem driving if it's a good course. thanks

I'd go with the closest decent club, you'll just play more if it's close.

If you're in North side then Muskerry or Mallow. (Blarney ok too but I never took to it).

    West- Lee Valley

    East - Douglas, Cobh, Monkstown,

None of those clubs, except perhaps Douglas, would insist on you knowing members to join, you'll need the signatures but they'll organise that for you.

thanks for info guys. Will look into them. if I wasn't to join a club do any of ye know of any good societies around the city that I could maybe join instead.

CIT and UCC both have good societies.

I think Charleville is Tuesday, Castlemartyr Tuesday, Castlemartyr Wednesday, Mallow Wednesday, Mitchelstown Wednesday, Mahon Thursday, Mitchelstown Friday, Youghal Friday, Kanturk Friday, Macroom Friday. I think though as was suggested earlier most of these wont kick off until March, usually around St. Patrick's Day. Also you should consider going east to Dungarvan and playing West Waterford Wednesday, Dungarvan Thursday and Gold Coast Friday. All easily accessible from Cork City.

It'd be even better if it actually answered the OPs questions, the vast majority of the clubs listed are "gent only" open comps.

Not too sure about that , i've played most if not all of them and im pretty sure i've seen the odd lass here n there , even if im wrong its still a good list of local clubs who have open comps so im sure with a quick call the op could find out if they also have ladies open days.

The ILGU web site also lists ladies open competitions, there may be some scope there. Also if ringing based on GUI open days information if the competition is open for ladies the club might be advised to also list on the ILGU site.

A lot of clubs won't have sent in their fixtures for the year though. Many won't have their schedules fully decided till the end of the month/start of February and henceforth, the open comps won't be posted up.

Should fill a bit though in the coming weeks
