Career Change

First time poster here looking for information.

I am a social care worker. I'm living near Kildare. I have worked this job for 2 years plus change. Frankly, I've had enough of it and am looking to transition out of it as soon as possible. The goal is adult education, the dream is becoming a lecturer.

As it stands though, I'm just looking to get out and am willing to try my hand at something completely new if that's what it takes. I know this'll be about as broad a question as it is possible to ask but does anyone have any advice for me as to how to get into a new career. I have done a level 6 train the trainer course as a stepping stone to my drream of adult eduation, however I'm led to believe that that is no longer enough. Any advice or encouragement would be fantastic.

Apologies for the vaguest thread of the year award.

What do you want to train/lecture in?

What do you want to teach and what are your qualifications on the subject? Start from there, see which colleges teach it, see if you can talk to them?

Thanks for the replies. At the minute, I'm hoping to do a TEFL course and I'm also waiting on NALA to get in touch with me about voluntary teaching with them That's as good a place as any to start off with.

As regards lecturing, I'd love to lecture social policy or even sociology.

NALA tends to be one on one if it's adult literacy.

What level degree/subject have you got? To lecture in social policy/sociology I imagine you'd need a PhD

I've got an honours degree in Applied Social studies in Social care. As for lecturing, I'd be inclined to believe you're right which is why it may always just be the dream. Do you know what one needs to teach fetac courses?

Also, any advice for how I could transition into something else in the mean time? I'd be willing to try even something like recruitment work while I studied part time but I've no idea how to get into it. I've emailed the IRF multiple times and got no reply.

As you can probably see, I'm fairly desperate to get out of caring first and foremost. I know that may come off badly but it's not something I've arrived at lightly and I'm fairly burnt out from it.

I used work as an adult trainer, but in IT. For Fetac you had to have the course you did, and then they specified additional qualifications depending on the subject, and usually experience delivering training, it might sound silly but it's not for everyone

Pm if you want any more info on working as a trainer
