Hi folks. I'm trying to figure out just how much trouble I might be in.

A couple of nights ago while I was drunk I got into an argument with my wife, she became violent towards me while our 3 year old daughter was present so I thought it was best to take the child out of that situation and down to me parents for the night.

While I was out waiting on a taxi my wife ran down to the Garda station, a few minutes later the gards came up and brought myself and my daughter down to the station. While there they informed me that my wife was taking our daughter back home and I had to find some where else to spend the night.

Upon hearing this I lost the head. I'm not to sure what I said but it was enough for them to throw me into a cell for a few hours and hand me a charge sheet for a public order offense 'Threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour'.

At first i wasn't too worried about it until I looked up exactly what that meant and the penalties it carries. Apparently I can be fined up to 500 euro and or face up to 3 months in prison.

I have a previous conviction from six years ago (A 3 month suspended sentence for possession of a knife) so I think I may be in deep ****.

Anybody here know what punishment i may be looking at ?

It's actually not as serious as it sounds. It's probably the second most common charge in the country.

Very hard to predict what any judge would do on any given court date, but you'll just be looking at a fine.

I'd ring the guard and apologise too
