Hi all. We're looking at venues over the next few weeks with a view to getting married in August/September 2016. In your experience, should there be much difficulty in securing a Humanist celebrant this far in advance? Thanks!

They are in beg demand, so it depends on your date and your part of the country. A Saturday in August might be very, very difficult to get, even at this stage, but you might be lucky! Only one way to find out. If having a humanist is the most important thing, and you're flexible with the date, maybe you could contact them as quickly as possible, find the dates that celebrants are free and then contact the venues to see if they have any availability on the same dates?

We booked about 18 months in advance before they had legal recognition.

Just bear in mind that the Spiritualists can also perform your ceremony unless you're intent on the humanists.
We initially booked the Humanists but found the attitude of our celebrant very flippant when it all got a bit murky last summer.
We then contacted the Spiritualists and Tom Colton was just so lovely and calming. It ended up being his dad who did our ceremony and he is such a dote.
Very supportive and sweet. Our ceremony had a nice humourous feel and we have lovely photos of him laughing during it.

The demand for non HSE ceremonies has rocketed so you should get on it asap.

    There are also Civil
Celebrants - not the government ones but perple
Trained to do ceremonies & who are registered through the company in the UK that had training for "weddings"/ funerals etc - not such a fixed racket at the humanists who charge 350 as a
    Fixed price for a Funeral..

No, the only people who conduct civil ceremonies are hse celebrants. They don't do funerals as there is no legal requirements for a funeral ceremony unlike a marriage ceremony. All other celebrants are religious or secular, not civil, celebrants.

We just booked a humanist for September 2016 Dublin & the 3 I contacted were available but just email them your venue & date & a quote (we found a €50 difference mightt matter to you)..
We wanted a Friday. They all got back to us very quickly.

Just a thought . Would it be easier to organise a civil/spiritual/humanist wedding in the North?

Yes, book as soon as you can. We were looking 16 months ahead and it was tough. Ended up going with a Friday.

Humanist is secular so we didn't consider spiritualist as it a religion.

Thanks all! We're thinking of a Friday anyway so hopefully that will be less difficult than a Saturday

Civil is much easier (only 16 days notice needed). Humanist weddings are not legally recognised up north without a separate civil ceremony.

Is humanism.ie the only place to find humanist celebrants in Ireland?

I'd assume they keep the list up to date so probably yes, BUT

just in case, there's a full excel spreadsheet on the welfare.ie website of all the registered solemnisers. You can sort them by what organisation they're qualified to solemnise under.

    http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/General-Register-Office.aspx

It's on the right, under downloads.

Thanks for the link, it seems humanist.ie is the only place to find a humanist celebrant. I thought there would be more for some reason

There is a new organisation started in the last 2 months or so. I'll post a link if I can remember it. Got it. Marry me Ireland. Although I cant get the page to load.
