does anyone know how to do this? My mother used to be able to, but unfortunately she's too ill to be asking her now.
I have no 10 cotton. I am able to crochet quite well. Just not sure if I'm doing it properly. Maybe someone might have a pattern?

    hi,
i am not experienced in this type of crochet, but if you want to look at possible patterns for this, have a look at ravelry.com,
at this link you will find patterns for Irish Crochet.
if you just want free patterns click on the free button on the left hand side panel under Availability, there are 471 free patterns available.
when i googled Irish Crochet lace, a few links came up with youtube videos demonstrating the techniques, maybe you could try that too, see if you find something you like, youtube has lots of free videos with people demo-ing their craft skills,
hope you find something that helps.

Hi Daisy, I have a book of Irish crochet Medallion patterns. I have an identical pattern to yours except the centre is a rose. EDIT: I found the shamrock pattern as well if you are interested.

Yes Definitely! I was able to figure out the shamrock, but I was putting off trying to make sense of the rose ,it looks a bit more complicated!

Oh! Can't tell you how delighted I am. My mother used to do this work. She's very ill at the moment, so can't help unfortunately. As I said, the shamrock isn't too bad, but the rose had me stumped! Thank you so much jelly baby! Thrilled!

You're welcome. The trend nowadays is to use diagrams but I still prefer the old fashioned patterns. Sorry your mum is ill. Hope you manage to follow the instructions ok.
