Got a phone call from a UK bailliff firm asking me to pay 25 pounds on UK customs duty for an item I bought abroad and sent to parcel motel. They said i bought the item 2 years ago and only hearing about duty now. Can they enforce this seeing as I live in Ireland?

It was delivered to PM, who would have refused it that point if theyd try then. Technically it was posted to PM in antrim, so you can leave them to collect the VAT from there...

Tell them to take a hike. UK bailiffs have no jurisdiction here.Is it really 3 yrs ago since you bought the item? Did you contact PM in the North about it?

That's what I thought. Wanted my email address. Told them I didn't have one :-) 2 years ago. Not gonna contact parcel motel about it. They would have contacted me by now

I'd bluff it out. The import courier seem to have passed on the debt to a bailiff. Do you remember getting a demand when you got the goods ?
Its not worth using PM for imports as UK customs seem even more sticky than ours. It happened to me once by mistake ( forgot to check my Amazon address ) and the beggars refused to take a non-UK card. had to got to the Post Office to get a small draft and post it to them. Mucho hassle.

As far as I know , import duty is paid to the Irish government if you are buying from outside the EU, as you bought the phone in the UK, and got it sent to a UK address, how is there an import duty?
Also, the bailiff would ad a fee onto this himself so it would be more than 25 quid, tell them to peee off.

sorry. just seen it was from outside uk, id still say its a scam

OP did the caller get you to identify yourself by providing personal information like DOB?

If they didn't then they are leaving themselves open to a claim of breaching data protection legislation and I don't think a bailiff would do that.
