City centre to Beacon Quarter, Sandyford. Curious as to what is the best route to this industrial estate from the city centre?
I’m in D4/D2 area, so is walk to Green line LUAS followed by walk at far end preferable to bus to the same estate? Which is quicker? More reliable? Pros/Cons?
The Dublin Bus route seems to 47, but it doesn’t seem to be too direct/potentially lot of suburban traffic. Many thanks.

LUAS would be the fastest yes.

    Bus options are:
    11, 47.

Both the 11 and 47 suffer from traffic congestion en route, but the 11 shouldn't be too bad outbound in the mornings.

The luas would be your best option. The bus will be caught in traffic at numerous points throughout the route.

    The Luas definitely.
Your destination is just around the corner from Stillorgan stop.

Definitely avoid the 47 which goes via Sandymount and in the morning will encounter three serious bottlenecks....

    1. Exiting Sydney Parade Ave. to turn left onto the Merrion Road
    2. Turning right against inbound traffic at St. Vincent's Hospital.
    3. Queuing on Nutley Lane to turn left onto the N11

I used to get the first 47 in the morning (around 7.45 if I recall) and tbh I thought it was fine. Only took about 30 minutes from Ringsend Road. But getting the later one would likely be a lot worse.

Thanks for all the feedback folks, I think the LUAS is likely my best bet. I caught it out there and went fine.
I caught the 47 back to the city centre and it wasn't too bad, and I'm wondering did I catch one of the slower 47's, as it went via Mount Merrion. Would the 'direct' 47 be much quicker? IE knock 10 mins off?
It took circa 45 mins as outlined above. Many thanks

I sometimes catch the 47 which departs Belarmine at 18:30, it would typically be at UCD at 18:50 and Sandymount at 19:10. The diversion via MM only applies to the buses that depart between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mon-Fri, outside of that slot they'd be going direct. The 18:30 service can be a bit unpredictable on Fridays - occasionally gets cancelled 'does not operate'.

Many thanks for that MJ Coyle. The 47 was actually a lot better than I expected, time wise. I don't know if it would be that much quicker if I drove it with bus lanes along some of route.

If the citybound 47 travelled via Mount Merrion when you did a trial run, it means that you did the trip between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.. Just be aware that the right turn at RTE (into Nutley Lane) will take much longer during the evening rush hour because the outbound traffic on the N11 will be getting priority plus Nutley Lane will be busier and it will take longer to turn left at the Merrion Centre because traffic waiting to turn right towards Blackrock will be holding up the flow.

You need to do your trial run into town during evening rush hour to see how long it will really take.
