I know Ventac (http://www.ventac.com/) in Wicklow make acoustic panels but other than that I'm out! How much they have a need for Acoustic Engineers I'm not sure.

It depends on what you want to do, and how you sell yourself. If you want to stay in the acoustics field exclusively then you'll need to research the specific companies that do that. However, if you're looking more generally then you could present yourself as a project engineer with specialist analysis experience (as a rough example).

When you decide what you'd like to do, look critically at any skills and experience gaps in your CV. It's much easier to plug these when you're in a job than when you're stuck looking for one.

Hi - I work self employed as an acoustic consultant, mainly in the west, but all over the place on occasion. Consultants in general took a big wallop in 2008/09 and acoustic consultants in particular. There were a few big practices that went bang, result lots of engineers went off all over, with a lot going to the UK. Left behind a whole army of one man bands. In general in the west there is not really enough work in acoustics alone, so a second string is required. There has been a major ramp up in opportunities, even here, in the last year though, so Dublin and environs probably booming. Still a great industry to be involved in, even if acoustics is generally an afterthought in most design projects. Wind farm planning and compliance measurements probably the biggest single sector at the mo.

There has been a lot of noise mapping done, noise related due to road traffic primarily, there may be another round on the go but not sure. EU directive compliance IIRC. Membership of the Institute of Acoustics worth looking in to.

    Quick answer - I don't know.
At a guess any Environmental Consultancy would be expecting all staff to be multi skilled so the more strings to your bow, the better, not a surprise really.

Anecdotal evidence (chatting in the pub) does seem to indicate the Middle East is getting busier, so if you find nothing here, it may be an option?

OP, can you do acoustic testing of dwellings?
A new TGD Part E has been launched and mandatory testing of all new dwellings is included as part of compliance with the building regulations. Could be a market that's untapped at present.

    1st July 2015 Is D day.

Acoustics is a fairly broad field, as I'm sure you know. If you were Dublin or Cork based there is probably a fair bit going on, in the north, however, they seem to be far more aware of the legislative aspects wrt noise control, and most County Councils (if that is the right term) seem to have acoustic staff on their own books.
