    Hi folks,

January blues has hit so myself and himself are thinking of going to Barcelona for the first week of June. Need advice on accommodation-anyone know a good place to look up apartments? Also would you recommend anywhere to visit outside Barcelona or would we have enough to do there for a week? I was told we have to spend a night or two in sitges apparently! Any tips on attractions or advice on the best areas are welcome too :)

    Thanks!

If you are a same sex couple, Sitges is for you!

But it's a nice place if you are not anyway, and is a great place to visit, very quaint, and quite sophisticated! Just know there is a gay scene there.

Walk, walk, walk in Barcelona. There is just so much to see and do. I can recommend the Gracia district for atmosphere, great eats, drinks and a local crowd. It's away from the tourist hot spots.

Get up to Guell Park where all the Gaudi stuff is. Fascinating, but a tourist trap, however it is a must see.

There is a place called Monserrat outside BCN that is great. You can get a funicular train up to the top of the mountain, and so on.

TBH between going to Sitges, walking around Barcelona, maybe heading up the mountains to Monserrat, and partying all night (believe me it is a party city), you will have a ball.

For accommodation, just google apartments Barcelona. Try to figure out where you want to stay first, as it can be confusing if the price looks great, but it might be outside a bit. A metro stop nearby is a bonus.

As I said earlier, the Gracia area is good. About a twenty five minute walk all downhill to the centre, and a tenner home in a taxi.

But where you stay is your own choice.

I hope you have a great trip, sounds wonderful, so is Barcelona!!

We stayed here, last year, and found it excellent...

    http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/residencia-campus-del-mar.en-us.html?aid=318615;label=New_English_EN_GBIE_5226314545-RnYQj*qnIkYg15Re*SD5mgS46932887305%3Apl%3Ata%3Ap1%3Ap2%3Aac%3Aap1t1%3Aneg;sid=2c3b9f39166ded393aa01b61819e9de1;dcid=1;ucfs=1;srfid=448344d3b49e097d2984ba7bdfd268d69e7ed337X1;highlight_room=

To add..it was the Residencia Campus Del Mar. It has a good location in Barceloneta, close to the beach (with restaurants, bars etc). The old port, with it's attractions, is beside Barceloneta. Aside from the buses, there's a metro stop at the top of the district, which allows easy access further afield. The trip up to Tibidabo is worthwhile, to get a panoramic view of the city.

Myself and my husband going same time, would love info on places to eat, drink etc. Celebrating a "big" birthday during that week, any recommendations on special places to go to eat/drink? Thanks

Thanks a million for the replies! All looks brilliant, can't wait now :)

I'll look into Tibidabo a bit more, we were thinking of going for just over a week-staying in Barcelona for maybe 5 days and then spending a night or two in some towns outside. Sitges looks quirky so I think a night there is a must! Any other towns or villages that are worth a visit? We're also looking at Tarragona for a night-architecture there looks amazing.

    Thanks everyone!

If you want to spend a day scouting out possible future holiday destinations, you can get the commuter train up the coast to Blanes, at the start of the Costa Brava (the part that really IS brava, ie rugged).
Blanes is a small holiday resort next to it's better known neighbours Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. All three are connected to each other by local bus services centred on the bus station in Lloret.
The train fare to Blanes should be approx 5/6 Euro, and takes about an hour and a half.

I'm thinking of booking a week in barcelona for myself and herself in july. Has anyone hired a scooter/moto over there? It seems like a great way to get around the city and they're cheap enough to rent. Beats sitting in a bus or taxi all day anyway

FYI - Primavera Sound Music Festival is on May 28 - 30 so accommodation at the very end of May might be really hard to find and a little more expensive.

Just thought I'd mention incase you are plans the June Bank holiday wkend away. Great city! Great festival too if you like that kind of music.

I recommend getting the train and then an AMAZING cable car trip to Montserrat. It'll blow your mind!

And when in the monastery, join the shuffling queue of pilgrims to touch the hand of the "Moreneta" :) (my wife did it...I took a rain check)

Been to barcelona 7 times and would recommend the Jazz hotel perfect location not too dear and stunning rooftop pool
We go for sun and shopping and a few nights kids free break
Have seen all the sights in our first few visits(which there are many) so don't bother with them any more
Tourist buses are great way of seeing the city
It's a city that has it all
