Hi folks I am having a wedding outside mass the short version and was thinking I don't need a singer for just half hour, also me and my partner listened to a few and we are just not gone on it, so was wondering would a CD be ok with just music no singing and would you know where I could buy one. Thank you

    Hi missmelo,

Some people do have CDs in the church, but this is super risky in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't buy one anyway, I'd make a playlist of the exact parts of the songs I wanted, as some songs have long introductions, or you may only need 30 seconds of music for the lighting of the candles for example, and don't want this to be an introduction/part of the song you don't care about and then you don't get to hear the bit you do want. You need to think about how to play it as well, and you would need an extreeeeemely responsible person to be on the ball for the music, and this is why church musicians are professionals, they know the ins and the outs of the ceremony (and the live music can be really special).

You could look at musicians other than a singer, for example 1 musician (piano, harp, organ or guitar etc) or combinations of instruments (flute and guitar, voice and ukelele, violin and piano, anything!), and see what combinations offer a good price. Not all musicians will offer a big discount; there are only 3 songs missing from what would be the full ceremony, and a wedding without the mass is not usually as short as 30 mins. If you were hypothetically having musicians for a 2 o clock ceremony, they would probably arrive around 1.30 and play/sing for a 10-20 minutes beforehand as the guests are arriving, until about 2.10 when the bride would arrive, until 3pm when the wedding might finish. So if you do look for musicians, don't be surprised if there is only a small discount as it's still a day's work for them and all the preparation that goes into it is pretty much the same.

Anyway go with the CD idea if you want, but please bear in mind that it's not easy, you will need to know exactly what parts of the mass these have to be played at, exactly when to start/fade in/fade out, and there will be a lot of work invovled. It might be worth the €200 to get someone else to take care of it!

It was indoors but that's what my sister done, just had the cd playing in the backround with someone nice and reliable to look after it..

I would think with todays technology that maybe you would be better off with either something on an iphone hooked up to a wireless speaker or some fancy one like that. Saves the hassle of finding a plug outside or having an ugly extension lead in sight..

In that case you can pick any song you like and just have it ready to go.

A handy way to make sure that the part of the song you want is playing is maybe give the person in charge the songs for a while let them listen to them and know what parts you want played. Then on the day they could just have headphones in with the song playing and just pop out the wire or plug when it comes to yer part.. It would work if the person is into it, just make sure they can do it..

Another thing might be a record player. They do sound lovely playing in the backround, you could do that and just get a continuous record and again just have someone there to turn it down when ye don't want music...
