hi guys. planning my second build for a lowcost pc that'll be just used in the bedroom for movies/netflix/browsing, that kind of thing. looking to keep it small in size and cost. how does this look? no need for any peripherals. thanks!

    Intel Core i3-4130
Intertech Eterno V6 Paladin Midi 500W
    Transcend 4GB RAM (2x2GB)
    Crucial M500 240GB SSD
    ASRock B85 Anniversary 1150 ATX

coming in at €366 delivered on hardwareversand

Change the processor to the Pentium G3258 anniversary edition. It can be overclocked to 4.0 - 4.2ghz+ even with cheap boards and the stock cooler which will bring it's performance close to the i3 for €40 less.

Go for a cheap board like the Asrock H81M-HDS which I know for sure can overclock those Pentiums.

Never heard of that PSU manufacturer. My choice for a cheap PSU would be the Corsair VS450.

Also go for a single 4gb stick of ram so you have the option of adding a second one in future.

I agree with the above but realistically no need to worry about overclocking, for your intended uses there will be zero difference between the g3258 and that i3.

I would just go for a cheap case like one of the Zalman T models and a VS350, that machine will draw about 120w so no need to worry about the supply either.

If you plan storing a lot of movies you could get a smaller SSD + 1TB hard drive for storage, but up to you on that one.

that's great, thanks guys. i was actually looking for the anniversary processor when i did the build, but couldn't remember the name! that'll be plenty of power for me. the case/PSU i had chosen was just a combo thing, but i think for the couple of euro extra for the better brand PSU, it seems worth it. also think that SSD is probably a bit overkill for such minimal use, considering a 1gb HDD is half the price. now looking at

    ASRock H81M-HDS, Sockel 1150, mATX
    4GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3 PC3-14900 1866
Zalman T4 Mini-Tower - schwarz mATX, ohne Netzteil
    Corsair VS Serie VS350, Non-Modular, 80+
Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition Box, 1150
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s

which is coming in at (a much more satisfying) €266. any other thoughts?

I would still definitely include an SSD for the OS and other programs, but a simple 60gb one should suffice in your case!

i think i'm gonna get the 120gb SSD to start with. i've still got a couple of 500gb HDD knocking around somewhere that'll cover me. thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it! settling on this

    ASRock H81M-HDS, Sockel 1150, mATX
    4GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3 PC3-14900 1866
Corsair VS Serie VS450, Non-Modular, 80+ (350W is out of stock at the moment)
Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition Box, 1150
    Crucial M500 SSD 120GB M.2
Zalman T4 Mini-Tower - schwarz mATX, ohne Netzteil

    for €281
