As the title says I'm wondering what would a good quality young AA bull cost. Considering buying one this year for mopping up on the dairy herd.
I know it's like asking how long is a piece of string but just wanted an idea(ballpark) before meeting breeder tomorrow.
    Thanks

sent you a pm, I dont think a year old bull would be able for dairy cows, would be fine for heifers

If you're planning on him going with cows you may be as well off with a 2 yr old as a younger bull would be under pressure with cows, if you can get one with a bit of height as if he has to jump to seal the deal on cows he is more prone to getting hurt. Like aa as the small heads on most helps with calving I reckon gives the cow a bit of a chance to open up better. Would be no harm to get him fertility checked as well before purchase

At a year old.. Angus bull be well fit for cows. As long as not to many of them.. Length to me is key.. Bulls length..

just dropped a PM. along with guidance above on fertility, size etc, a year old bull now will probably be 18 months by the time he sees a cow if you are spring calving so he would ok at that age for cows..

watch calving difficulty especially if Red angus (small numbers) sire or if you see Rommel, Dunbar or Elmark in the sire side ... as these are not suitable for heifers. Another consideration is Johnes testing in the herd

    good luck with trip

Using AA bulls here a life time and no way would a 1yo lad be fit for a group of cows, he will only hurt himself eps when he comes into the yard when one is on i quit using young bulls with the cows instead i buy 2-3yo lads they know what they are at and are well developed and ya can see what the calves look like, sale on in carrick on shannon in a few weeks if you can hold out till then will be a good test of the market prices
