Social Welfare Advice

    Hi All,

I'm looking for some information regarding Job seekers allowance or benefit. I left college in 2013, due to personal issues. I never considered applying for social welfare before as I wasn't really interested and I haven't had expenses because I've been living at my family home.

I'm wondering what happens if I apply for social welfare benefit. Would I be entitled to receive money for the last 12 months or does it start as of now? I never really considered drawing social welfare but I'd like to start doing night classes and go back to College in September.

How likely would I be considered for Social Welfare payment also? Would I have to wait many weeks/months?

Would really appreciate some help here, Thanks!

If you applied for it tomorrow, then it would start from tomorrow. It doesnt matter how long you've been unemployed for. Only from when you apply.

I assume you are under 25, right? so at best you will only get 100 euro per week. But since you are living with your parents their income will be a factor in how much you recieve.

Also if you plan on going on the 'Back to education' scheme you have to be recieving the social welfare a certain amount of months. Don't quote me but last time I heard it was 9 months on the social to apply.
