    Hi,

Anyone ever see any BMW 550d's around Ireland?

I never even realised BMW had a 550d which produces almost 400 hp and 800 Nm of torque.

Would be interesting to see what the tax on them is like. Apparently you can get 8l / 100km out of them

Don't think they were ever produced in right hand drive. Saw one or two 550i x drives in the States.

    Only LHD in f10 guise
The x5 m50d is available in RHD though with the same tri turbo 3.0 setup

By Cheeses that is some specific output (125BHP/l) for a diesel.

I would say it's the Diesel M5, even if it's blasphemous :pac:

    It's only a 3 litre diesel though.

    With 3 Turbos though!

Sure the current M5 is "only" a 4.4 V8 :pac:

    Well you'd be wrong then!

    Why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,193 ✭✭✭Cleveland Hot Pocket

    Why?

    It's an m550d and not an m5!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,196 ✭✭✭✭jimgoose

    Why?

Strictly speaking it's an "M Performance" car, not an "M car". Whatever that means! :pac:

Ah I know the M Performance and actual M cars are hugely different but I would consider it the Diesel M5, it has the performance to back it up!

You can consider it whatever you want but mrBMW has decided it is not a diesel m5

People used to call the 335d the M3 Diesel back in 2007 (AutoCar, Auto Bild) so I guess calling the M550d the M5 Diesel equivalent is quite appropriate.

    I mean:

    M5 0-60: 4.1 seconds
    M550d 0-60: 4.5 seconds
Top speed for both is 155mph...
