    Hi,

I recently purchased 30 acres of average land in the west of Ireland. The plan is to farm part time as I also have an off farm income. Nothing too hectic to start, just a few cattle until I have the land and buildings restored to there former glory. Iv been trying to find out about the various schemes available to young farmers but getting concrete info seems rather difficult. I have my green cert so I am counted as a young farmer. Are Teagasc or a private planner nessesary to avail of the European payments? and who is better to go with? Seems hard to plan for the year ahead until I know what I am entitled to.

    Thanks

I feel sorry for anybody in this situation, as I was not so long ago. If you start up any other type of business, there would be government agencies all over you like a rash, offering to help, but new farming enterprises, and your on your own.
Teagasc moaned at me that they were all over worked and couldn't take on any new clients as they were all overloaded.
One guy I spoke to said I was trying to take money away from genuine farmers as I had a job already!!!!
My advise, get a private agri advisor asap, (talk to the local farmers about who good) as their are deadlines approaching for national reserve, which could be major benefit to you. Don't hang about.

Thanks lads. Visited a farm planner and in one meeting he got more done then in weeks of talking to teagasc. So it's all in motion now. Cheers
