BMW E39 525i Rough Idle

Hey lads, my E39 M54 has a rough idle when it is dead cold. It shakes a bit while the rpm goes down from around 900-600. Already replaced the ignition coil that caused a misfire in cylinder 6 but the shaking continues.

It only happens for about 20/30 seconds until it is somewhat hotter. Perfect other than that, any ideas?

AFAIK that would throw a code and there was no codes at all bar the ignition coil, the shuddering very light and not as heavy as you'd expect from a faulty shaft sensor.

I should also mention, all power is there, shifts well and the MPG is good.

What are you scanning it with ?
Can you get live data with it ?

It was scanned with INPA last week and yeah it could get live data. Not sure when I can get it plugged in next.

That's a common complaint on E46/E39 forums. It may well be something else but the M54 is known to suffer from clogged hydraulic tappets which have the potential to cause this.

I would be looking for air leaks in breather system or failing breather valve

Quick update to this, it's still occuring with no error codes thrown, replaced the intake boot as the old one was in bits. There's a faint whistle upon acceleration too.
