Just wondering does anyone know can you bring a flatpack on the bus from Ikea or are they strict enough as to what they'll allow on?

I've seen people getting on the bus with fairly large and bulky items. I'd say that you'd be ok, as long as your box isn't blocking the doors, the aisle, or the spot where passengers can park a buggy or a wheelchair. The only way to know for sure, is to contact Dublin Bus directly.

I brought a flatpack chest of drawers on the 140 before. No one batted an eyelid. Cant remember where I stowed it or if I had space to hold on while sitting on an aisle seat. Also transferred to a different bus and was grand. This was a friday evening.

I'd probably avoid bringing something bulky on the bus during rush hours, but otherwise you should be fine!

Thanks people. Got on the bus no problem with a set of shelves there today.

ISTR that it was a planning condition for IKEA that it was to be accessible by bus.

It would therefore be a bit dumb if you could go to and from IKEA but not actually shop there.

A driver would still be within their right to refuse to let someone on if they though it was a safety risk to other passengers.
Some of the boxes that furniture comes in is very long, and I wouldn't want people swinging them around the bus, especially at a bus time when people might have to stand.
And IKEA isn't just big furniture, they also do lots of small items, so nobody is stopping anyone from shopping there, it'd just be a case of expecting people to find a more suitable method of getting home bulky items if they buy any.

Ikea sell lots of small items as well, and have delivery options.

Bus drivers can't be required to carry bulk items which may block access, be trip hazards or cause other issues.

Shopping there is one thing. Carrying very large, flat pack boxes that block aisles and seats and are a nuisance to other passengers, is something else entirely. Dublin Bus are under no obligation to let passengers do that. The OP was fine, as a set of shelves wouldn't be all that big. But I wouldn't want to be on the bus and be jammed in beside someone carrying a feckin sofa in a flat pack box. The bus that serves IKEA, doesn't just serve IKEA, it serves serves other parts of Dublin too, so passengers don't have a free reign to do whatever they want and bring whatever they want on to the bus.
