Got a question about entry requirements?

So I'm looking to do the Arts course in NUI and these are the entry requirements:

    +2HC3, 4OD3 including passes in English & Irish & a third
language (some Arts subjects have extra requirements –
    see individual subjects listed below)

I'm doing Higher French and English so there not a problem but I'm just wondering, if I was to do foundation Irish(despise the subject) would that count as passing Irish and thus complete the Irish aspect of the requirements?

    Thanks in advance.

No. Afraid not. My friend's son wanted to do one of the science courses here, had the points, wasn't allowed because he only had Foundation Irish. Didn't matter that the course had no use for Irish. It's just a stupid entry requirement.

You could wait until you're 23 when those requirements don't count anymore. Or you could go to one of the universities that don't require Irish. I think there are one or two, TCD probably, but I don't know which off the top of my head.

I think all you need is a pass in the subject, so if your heart is set on Maynooth, try and stick with it at Ordinary level.

... and I hope your heart is set on Maynooth because it's a great university in my opinion.

The Leaving Certificate subject 'Gaeilge - Bonnleibhéal' (Irish - Foundation Level) is not acceptable for minimum entry requirements or points purposes.

You could drop an email to the Kilkenny campus -> kilkennyfirstarts@nuim.ie as I know they might have different entry requirements onto their (very same) arts degree.

Minimum entry requirements would be exactly the same; points cut-off might well be lower though.

Afaik, there are no cut off points yet anyway. I think it's just AQA at the minute.

Oh, I know they're not available yet; my point was that while points might vary between Maynooth and Kilkenny, minimum requirements definitely won't.
