Looking at importing an Audi or VW but noticing most of these UK cars come now with MPH only, will this require a change for the NCT as there will be no KPH visible?

Can't see any mention of it in the NCT manual?

What year? If it has a digital display you can set it to display the speed in either mph or KMPH, maybe that's good enough. Like below.

Page 28 of the NCT manual says the speedometer must be visible and backlit. It says nothing about mph or kmph so you should be fine.

    https://www.ncts.ie/NCT%20Manual%20Revise%20May%202012.pdf

Uk cars generally have a kmph under the mph.

I know a number of people who have brought cars in from NI/UK with miles on the clock and there's no problem with the NCT.

The import business would collapse if there was!

    Probably 2010 onwards.

I know if you are importing an Irish car to the UK they insist on a change from KPH to MPH, wasn't sure if we were the same.

I'm not sure either, but my own is an 09 import from the UK, have the dash as above, except the speedo clock is MPH and it has passed an NCT. Not sure if was because the digital display is set to kmph or they just didn't check.

There is no issue with mph only speedos and the NCT.

NCT can not fail a car for having speedometer scaled in MPH as it doesn't say in NCT manual that having km/h scale is a requirement.

TBH if you had your speedometer scaled in m/s or knots they would still have to pass it.

AFAIK it is mandatory in the UK to have a permanent kph display somewhere on the dash (always moaning about it in UK car forums), so it should have at least a digital display as well. In any case as per above I don't think it even matters.

I have a 2003 E-Class I imported, it has a MPH only speedo, I get the KPH on the digital display in the middle, no problems with NCT

    Any links to that?
Why would it be mandatory to have km/h in UK where they use MPH?

EU driving I would guess, not absolutely 100÷ that it has to be a permanent display (but the impression I get is that that is the case) definately at least something switchable to kmph.

Don't know the actual law tbh, only going by a number of threads like this I have seen in the past on various forums.
