Moving from JSA to casual

I've been offered some temp work recently and spoke to my local welfare office about it. They said as I'm on JSA and not JSB that I would have to go on a casual payment scheme where they take a 5th of my total payment for every day worked. I have time sheets to fill out and bring in every week which I don't consider a problem. My question is, how long does it take for you to get paid once you switch to this method? My last payment. In the post office was last Tuesday week and still no sign of the cheque they said they'd send me from here on out. Getting a bit worried with it taking so long especially since funds are down after Christmas.

The difficulty with changing to casual from JSA is that casual is paid a week behind and JSA is paying a current week so there will be a week that you wont get anything, it then depends on how long the paperwork will take to figure out what they will deduct from you per day worked....also in general the cheques only go off the system on Friday nights and go out into the post and people usually receive them on Tuesdays/Wednesdays so if you havent received yet this week it will be next week I Would say, you should keep ringing them to see what status the claim is at and see if you can get it hurried up a bit

If you are on JSA then your means from employment will have to be assessed. Its on jsb that a fifth of your jobseekers is deducted for every day you work up to a maximum of 3 days. If you work > 3 days on either jsa or jsb then you will receive nothing.

Thanks for that. Just found the working out your means from work thing on citizens information. I think the man in SW on kings inn street got a bit confused between this and the deducting a fifth for every day worked like on jsb which led to a bit of conflicting info.

Regardless of that though, does this mean that they will deduct my weekly means from my dole each week? I'm still a bit confused on how it all works

e.g.: Say I earned €60 for a days work and only worked one day that week. €20 of this isn't taken into account so my weekly means = 60% of €40 which is €24. Will they then deduct €24 from the payment they usually give me (€188) resulting in a payment of €164.

Thanks, I get it now. All that's left to do now is wait for them to start paying me again because I'm really starting to stretch the aul bank account here ;)
