Depends really. They will look at your CV and recommend that you should be doing such a such a thing.

Depends on your circumstances. Like if you finished college last year or something, they may recommend getting experience and doing a jobbridge.

Or maybe up skilling/retraining. Check out the fas courses available, at fas.ie and have some idea instead of being caught on the hop.

Depends who you get also. I had a battleaxe of a person last year, being forced onto a course, a very basic computer course. Then I had a lovely person before the Christmas, no pressure, gave you choices.

Thanks for the reply, do they call you back then every few weeks or something?

They did last year. And I had my last meeting before Christmas and there wasn't a mention of being called back, because I'm signed up on a course and I should hear back soon.

They need to justify their existence, don't they?

    Ah that's a bit harsh.

There are a few out there who never looked for a job in their lives, and wouldn't take one if it walked up and bit them. Not saying there are a lot like that, but a few....

The Activation thing is to help you focus on trying to find a job - if you can show that you're 'Genuinely Seeking Work', they're grand.

They may try to help you develop a plan - some are good, some less so - but you will need to work with them a bit.

BUT - don't be pushed into e.g. doing a course, if it's not for you. If you don't have PC skills e.g. MS EXcel, then it might be no harm (You've obviously got the internet skills tho...)

    BOL!

Yeah but, they are only interested in helping themselves only. All unemployed are treated the same, irrespective of what they are trying to do themselves. My experience is "patronising" by them.If you have a few courses you want to pursue, then that will get them to back off a little, but they will keep wanting to you to do courses, courses, courses.

Do they want people to keep doing them until the UE retires?? Probably do actually.

No I think thats really unfair to say all intreo staff are selfish and have no interest at all in unemployed people.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Just back from this, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, she signed me up for an online course which I wanted and recommended I apply for jobs within the ce scheme, so I was pretty happy with that.
