If its a fairly modern bike it will just be a matter of replacing an alloy dropout...
( designed to break in such a situation so as NOT to stress the frame )

    They range from €10-€30
    Depending on bike brand

    15 mins to fit....
So a good local bike shop shouldn't be more than €30/€40

Giant Defy 5 is the make. the bit that hangs down is still in tact but broke off, image below (something similar)

The hanger is the small alloy part countrykid was talking about. It is screwed onto the frame and the derailleur (your pic) bolts onto this. It acts as a weak link so that the frame isn't damaged when problems like this occur. Look up Giant web site for a hanger for a defy 5 (it will probably have a number) or ask in a shop that stocks Giants. Not an expensive thing to fix, but you do need the correct one for your frame.
This one should fit - but it's in the UK. Shouldn't be too hard to get one nearer to you

How old is the bike? Im sure Giant should cover this under the warranty. A broken derrailuer hanger is defo a warranty issue.

Not if you crash it isn't. :)

Something along the lines of this just make sure it fits your bike?

i dropped the bike off just before closing and the guy in there didnt seem to know how to fix it. he said he'll have a proper look tomorrow. but like him i can see its snapped off. how does he go about fixing it, he said it was part of the frame first then looked and said maybe not

hopefully when he gets a proper look , he'll know what to do

suppose he might not have the Giant part , if this appeard "new " to him
