I have been wanting to know this. When i first signed up, 6 or so yrs ago, i had to be 18 and provide my DOB. (which i know can easily be altered)

But now a days all i seem to see in my cousin in laws on it all the time ranging from ages of about 9 and up. Its crazy!

And to make things worse one of them (one of the younger lads on oh side) had recently put up a video of this girl twerking with nothing but a thong on and her ass was in the camera. He had posted in the great a video it was! He is only 10 or 11! :O

I tried reporting it but got told that it was not bad enough to be banned. Now for an 18yr old, yea grand. But for his age? I really Didnt know what to do. His parents are kind of old days farmers who dont believe in talkin bout this kind of stuff and have no clue bout technology what so ever!

I am curious to know if you still need to be 18? If not this kind of content Shouldnt be on there.

    No you don't.

But that content will always exist through 3rd parties etc. It's up to the parent to control what their kid views on facebook.

I wouldn't let my younger siblings near it for a lot of other reasons other than twerking videos

If he has access to the internet a girl in a thong is probably mild in fairness.

I know that but its nearly becoming tho main source of contact between the kids. Facebook twitter etc.

It just surprises me that if under 18s are allowed on the site now surely there should be some kind of filter on it?

Of course they can go lookin elsewhere. I know that. But if they are not lookin, this is on one of their friends profiles?

I dont know. It just doesnt sit right with me.

As for parental supervision online... Well dont get me started on that!

The only requirment now is to have a kid and post endlessly about said child.

Although I hear there is an exemption for people who share competitions and send invitations for terrible games you'd never play...presuming you are of sound mind.

Best thing I done the past year is stop using it.
If you have so a question like that, you should probably give it up,......

When it first set up in Ireland did they only let you join if you said you were in a university or am I must-remembering?

Yes that was the whole original premise of facebook everywhere, it was exclusive to an extent, you needed a working college email address to join. Then they just kept opening it more & more until we reach where we are today.

Are you talking about age or IQ?

The worst kind of FB users are the one's that feel the compulsion to comment on every news story...like they're an expert on f*cking everything.

    A bit like AH actually.

A kid can enjoy a video about twerking for the art of twerking itself. It doesn't necessarily have any sexual message for them unless they've hit puberty, or been told by an adult that this is dirty sex stuff.

Twerking has been all over the news, the music channels and just about every media outlet you can think of, it's a bit late to try hiding it from them. Trying to hide it from them will only peak their interest more anyway.

There's nothing stopping him from seeing twerking at school, walking down the street, at a friend's party. Just because you can't get your mind out of the gutter doesn't mean everyone else can't enjoy a good honest twerk for the legitimate dance craze that it is. These things don't last long, let him enjoy the fad while it's around.

The minimum age to join facebook has been 13 since at least 2008.

I don't get that sort of ****e in my newsfeed because I unfriended any of the people that would post that type of ****e (regardless if they're family or not) I even blocked s few that kept re sending friend requests to me afterwards.

In the US there is some (stupid) law designed to 'Protect the children'.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children's_Online_Privacy_Protection_Act

A side effect of this law is that websites have to comply with a bunch of legal (and expensive) mumbo-jumbo to allow children to create accounts or to handle data of children. Anyone under the age of 13 has these special rules applied to them.

As a result, almost all websites based in the US will have a requirement that you must be '13 or older' to create an account.

Facebook is just one of pretty much every website I can think of that does it. So all the kids do exactly what my nephews do, they just pick some year in the valid range.

If that were true, I'd spend a lot more time on Facebook.

All I have are people talking about their kids and their new years resolutions. I haven't seen a half naked chick on Facebook in forever.

(I think they all went to Tumblr)

It depends on which half you're talking about. The same rule also applies to mermaids.
