    Fri evening, maybe 7-8pm.

One option is the 17 bus, but it's timetabled to take up to 1h 5 mins from start in Rialto to Blackrock station. And these are described as "off-peak estimates".

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Your-Journey1/Timetables/All-Timetables/New-Route-17/

Example: 17:50 to 18:55, or 18:15 to 19:20 - seems like a long journey time............

My stop is the third stop from the start, so a bit less, say 1h.

    Fare = 2.60 Leap, over 13 stages.

The alternative is walk to Fatima tram stop 5-7 mins, tram to Connolly, then DART to Blackrock (20min journey time).

    Fare = not integrated (YET), so Luas 2 zones 1.70 + 2.05 Leap DART fare = 3.75.

I would be grateful for any advice, thanks.

The 17 will indeed take about an hour as it serves southside communities en route. At peak times it can take up to 1 hour 20 minutes due to traffic congestion.

Using the NTA National Journey Planner (www.a-b.ie or easy smartphone app) confirms that taking the LUAS from Fatima to Abbey Street, walking to Tara Street Station, and taking the DART from there should take under 50 minutes.

You could alternatively take any of the 27, 56a, 77a or 151 to the city centre and then either a 4 or 7 from O'Connell Bridge. This will take around an hour, but using LEAP you'll get the benefit of the LEAP 90 fare rebate. The fares would be €2.05 and €2.05 less €1 rebate - total €3.10.

The 17 is probably your best bet unless you time your Luas and Dart connections precisely.

Yeah you're probably best going with the 17. At least you won't have to change.

The tram from Fatima to Busarus / Connolly is about 20 mins max, add 20 mins on DART from Connolly to Blackrock = 40 mins on vehicles.

Add walk to Fatima, plus wait for tram, plus change in Connolly - YES, may as well take the bus.

Though the bus is less frequent.

The 17 probably won't take as long as an hour and 5 minutes. What it does definitely take is a hell of a convoluted route to Blackrock; it's not for the inpatient or those with no sense of direction :)

Living close to the Barn I can safely say that a bus into town will almost certainly beat the Luas for speed at that time of night; a Dart will be the quicker over the 4 or 7 from O'Connell Bridge. Routes 27, 151, 56A or 77A from Tesco or Cork Street will all leave you a few minutes away from Tara Street as will the 68 from SCR or the 150 from Kildare Road/Donore Avenues if it's handy for you. The 122 from the SCR will get you into town as well but it gives you a little longer walk than the other buses.

On a good day and with a bit of luck you'll do it in less than 30 minutes; I did so last Friday evening. I'd allow 45 as a more reasonable time frame.

I used to take the 17 semi-regularly between Terenure and Blackrock. Always found it an utter disaster, ultimately gave up and started going via the city centre. That was a few years ago, it may have improved since.

I'd have thought bus into town + Dart/4/7 to Blackrock would be your best bet

    Thanks.

I will be near the Coombe hosp, on what seems to be called Dolphin's Barn street. Bus stop number 4434.

    Buses from this station
27 - this goes to Dame st., then onto north quays to Eden quay
    56A
77A - this goes Cork - Lord Edward - Dame - to Townsend street

151 - this goes along Cork, then onto north quays, Ormond quay, to Eden Quay, then Custom House quay.

As I posted above - use www.a-b.ie or the National Journey Planner app for smartphones.

It will give you the best options and accurate fare information.

Cycle it, its only 10km even at 20kmh thats 30 minutes and it's a nice cycle down the canal and out the stillorgan road then cut across for blackrock. Easiest and quickest way be far

    As I drove through Rialto at 6:55pm, I saw a 17 arriving.

I walked to the Coombe hosp, waited a few mins, and got a 77A at 7:15pm.

I got off near the Long Stone pub on Townsend street, and walked up Tara street.

I loaded value onto the Leapcard at 7:32, according to my Leap account, and tagged in at Tara at 7:33.

There was a DART sitting in the platform.

I got off at Blackrock about 7:55pm, and noticed that the RTPI screen said 17 due in 15 mins, I think.

So thanks for all the advice.

40 mins from Coombe bus stop to Blackrock rail station.

Bear in mind that the RTPI at Blackrock Station for the 17 would be showing the details for the next departure (20:10) rather than the next arrival!

At a guess I'd say that the 19:00 17 from Rialto would get to Blackrock at about 20:00.
