VRT on van?

    Okay im completely confused on the VRT rates for vans. I've located the exact van I need in the North and the dealer says the rate of VRT is 200 euro (he sells 4-5 vans a month to the south and knows this as fact) The van is a 2012 Vivaro btw. Now I thought this was a good price considering the fact ive brought several motorbikes in from the UK in years gone by and ive always paid a hell of a lot more than this.

    So today I check the revenue website and it looks like the price is actually 13% of the retail value of the van meaning the VRT would be well in excess of this (circa 1250 euro). Also I notice on donedeal a lot of northern and mainland UK imported vans have sellers quoting the VRT as 200 euro also. What gives here? Has anyone on the board brought a van in recently and VRT'd it and how much did they pay. It's a huge price difference and I'd like to make sure before I go ahead with the purchase of the van for my new business venture.

    Thanks in advance :)

    There is confusion there. I know for a fact that the small vans such as caddy etc are 200 to vrt yet the revenue site seems to have them down as 13 percent.

    It's pretty farcical tbh. The revenue website defo states it's 13.3% of the price for all commercials under 3500kg but it seems punters are paying 200 flat rate. Just don't want to be the sucker who goes in and get's charged the 13.3% because of guy behind the counter is having a bad day.

    Should be 200, as long as it's just the normal 3 seat van and not a crew cab.

    How cheap is it? There should be a good few 11 and 12 Vivaro's for sale down here, with a much better than standard spec. Most are SWB models though, and they do look like mini busses. Silver with glass panels down the side.

    I brought in an Iveco 3.5 ton tipper from the UK last August and it was €200 VRT.
    That one was an 07 though, maybe it's different for newer vans.

    It's a LWB 2012 with a very good spec and steel shelving in the back. The price is defo right for me about 1800-2000 cheaper than down here for same spec.

    As far as I know light vans like the Vivaro still fall into the category C VRT rate as they meet the criteria highlighted below.

    From page 292 of this revenue VRT document:
    Amends the definitions of a “category B” vehicle and a “crew cab” in section 130 of the Finance Act, 1992, in order to revise the measurement criteria used to classify certain vehicles into the various categories that determine the rate of vehicle registration tax to be paid. The revised measurement criteria are targeted at such vehicles as car-derived vans,
    jeep-derived vans, other vans and crew cabs.
    The changes mean that –
    • car-derived vans, jeep-derived vans and other vans which have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) below 2,520 kilograms or a wheelbase below 2.450 metres are classified as category B (attracting a 13.3% VRT rate). Such vehicles that exceed both of these thresholds are classified as category C (attracting a £40 VRT flat rate);
    small vans below 1,600 kilograms unladen weight that have a cargo area load volume exceeding 2m3 are classified as category C regardless of whether they meet the new GVW or wheelbase thresholds;
    • crew cabs with a cargo area length less than 45% of the wheelbase and a GVW less than 2,520 kilograms are
    classified as category B. Those crew cabs that exceed either of these thresholds are classified as category C.
    The section has effect from 1 July, 2001, as specified by Ministerial Order (S.I. No. 212 of 2001).

    FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

    You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

    Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    Hi,

    I just need to revert to this old thread.
    I would like to know if a VW Caddy is seen as a car derived van?

    Cheers
