Car Insurance to Van Insurance

    Hey,

I bought a van last weekend, got it towed to house so didn't need to worry about insurance. I currently have car insurance with 123, there's 6 months left. They don't do van insurance so I have to get it elsewhere.

Not sure who to get a policy with yet, but anyone I have rang is asking for my no claims bonus, and that I can't use both my NCB for van & car.

So I'm gonna have to get my NCB off 123, does that mean I have to cancel my car insurance or will 123 just cancel it on me anyways?

Don't wanna ring 123 yet coz knowing them they'll charge me €40 to even check it out!!

    Anyone have any ideas?

I could be wrong but I don't think you can mirror your NCB on the car with the van.

You're right, I had the same problem a few years ago.
The best thing to do is phone all the companies that do van and car insurance and see what sort of a deal they will do for the two vehicles. But they will only be able to apply the NCD to one of the policies, hopefully the one that gives the better saving.

I had the same problem last week.

I was only 6 months into my first car policy.
My job changed co i sold the car and bought a van.
I had to cancel my original policy on the car and just start from fresh on the van.

However it was the same company doing the insurance on the van that i had on the car, they would not change over the policy. I had to cancel the car policy and they will refund me some money from they remainder of the policy for the the last six months.

Load of b....x really. its not fully finished yet so I dont know how much they are refunding me....

PLUS THE WHOLE ADMINISTRATION FEE TOO WILL HAVE TO COME INTO IT.

Just another way to scam some money from the employee.

    X2

I've 10 years no claim(down as 6 or more) and I could mirror my car onto a van.

    Hi all,
Rather than start a new thread I figure I should ask here.
I'm half thinking of buying a van.
Currently I've my own car, use it to get to and from work. Very often I have to drive to sites etc, which means carrying round bits and bobs in the boot. The car is my own and is privately insured. I'm wondering if I were to buy a van which way should I go insurance wise?any idea on price for a 31yr old with 5yrs no claims?

I was in same boat as you a few months back, it was a bitch trying to get van insurance, they all wanted me to cancel my car policy and then the van insurance policy I was being offered was brutal; no breakdown, no windscreen cover etc.. Insure my van was also cheapest.

Got onto Insure My Van, they let me mirror my insurance with my car, so that meant I didn't have to start from scratch on the van with my NCB, they also gave me breakdown & windscreen cover and open drive.

I'm 32, with 10 yrs NCB and my insurance fully comp is 360 euro. When the documents arrived I realised I was under Aviva so I was happy with that.

The first quote they gave me was 440 euro, I said no way, then I rang back and got talking to a different lad, he said 400 euro and I bargained him down to 360 euro coz I said I'd pay all in cash up front.

    Best of luck with it.
