Mold, how best to deal with after cleaning?

    Hi folks,
My flatmate didn't let me know about a developing mold problem in her bathroom.

When it was noticed, there was a lot of black mold across the ceiling, which has since been cleaned with bleach.

In the picture below you can see that the ceiling is discoloured from the black of the mold.

My question is whether it's sufficient to just paint over this, or is further treatment required?

    Many thanks.

I use a fungicidal paint by Zinnser for this problem. I think Dulux do a similar product. Two coats and you shouldn't have mould again unless there is no effective ventilation at all, in which case you're fighting a loaing battle.

Any decent paint shop will have it but you might not find it in a DIY store like Woodies or B&Q.

You might first give it a wash with "sugar soap" to try neutralize some of the residual bleach.
As mentioned, u need to address the damp source, how good is the extractor,/ is she using it/ does she let it run on/can air get into bathroom if fan is on?

i had that porblem, i bleached it rensed it and painted it with a good paint,

but more importantly i went to attic above it and gave it a good covering of insulation, you find that after a few yrs the insulation settles and give no insulating effect, i put on plenty layers and it stopped the problem since, and that was done about five yrs ago,
before i insulated it i was bleaching, rinsing and painting it every year,

it is the steam hitting the cold surface that cause this, so check above it,

i also had same problem in one corner of kitchen ceiling and this solved the porblem for me,
it will make it cosier also.

Thanks for all the replies. The bathroom is actually below the living room.

I'm going to paint it with the paint mentioned above and then make sure the extractor fan is used more often as well, and hopefully that'll avoid it recurring.
