online xmass gifts from USA.... extra charge

    Hi I bought xmass gifts for my girlfriend online it came to 120 euro,that included extra 22 euro for express post and did not receive it before xmass and was told I would. Today I got a letter from FedEx saying I owe the a further 38 euro for duty and taxes..... Has this happened anyone before.... Why am I getting this bill from FedEx...

    The charges are for VAT etc and also the FEDEX charge for collecting on behalf of revenue

    they would sell the debt to a collection agency who would pursue you and take legal action against you - yes, they do take cases for small amounts.


    Saem works if you send gifts to USA - duty and sometimes state taxes have to be paid.

    In future stick to USPS if buying from the US. Customs don't always examine them for some reason but you will always be caught if using a courier.
