    Hi All,

I am looking for some advice. I drive a 01 Toyota Corolla Liftback, the back
wiper sometimes turns on by itself. I am due to have my NCT next month and
a friend has told me that I should take out the fuse to disable the wiper as this
will not result in a failed NCT.

I find it hard to imagine this is correct. what do you think, is he right?

They don't test rear wipers AFAIK, We have a Toyota estate and the rear wiper failed, I removed it completely and it passed no problems.
BTW, what has happened is water has run down inside the motor into the gearbox which has brass contacts on a plastic gear, the water shorts the circuit out and it runs by itself.
If you remove the plate covering the mechanism the water will drain out and it should be back to normal.
Drill a small hole in the lower edge of the plate and it will drain itself in the future.

No need to do anything, rear wiper not tested.

You may want to fix this anyway though as it means water is getting in and causing issues.

They don't test the rear wiper. Know from experience as had one that only worked when it felt like it on my old car. Passed every NCT no bother at all. Because it's not standard on all cars apparently it can't be tested as standard. That said, if it does randomly start going during the test, they might make a comment on it.
