Moto G trouble

Just wondering if anybody has an idea what I could do.
Got a 1st gen Moto G just before Christmas and really loved it - until yesterday.

Had got a new sim for it as my old phone used a standard Sim. Popped it in all good for the last 4 weeks until I decided to change the sim pin. Switched it off and back on again as I wasn't sure whether the sim lock was on. Hadn't been off since I got it.
Switched back on and it didn't recognize the sim. Tried switching off and on, switching into plane mode and back. Nada! Got a new sim this morning, still no luck.
Decided to do a factory reset. It's stuck in the set-up now. I was able to choose the language and now it has been saying "switching on wi-fi" for at least an hour now. Looks like it's going back to amazon :(

Is there one last thing I could try?

Contact Amazon, if its not working (ie fit for purpose) and you have done nothing to it send it back.
Under EU law if something purchased over the internet and is faulty within 6 months, it is deemed to have had a fault when it was dispatched..
Edit, that is if its in its original condition with no modifications or custom roms etc I guess...
(Got exam tomorrow and had to study rights and stuff)

Thanks! It's going back and I wouldn't know how to modify it anyway, so there shouldn't be a problem. All I did was to switch it off and then back on again....

@T-Bird: Good luck in your exams!
