Thought this was the best place to post this.
I am undergoing a course of treatment and have been instructed to use some OTC products, which are quite expensive.
My pharmacist suggested I use this hardship assistance and get it covered in the Medical Card.
I just wanted to try to find out a bit more about it and I thought some of you may have used it or had patients get items through it.

Not all pharmacists take part in the scheme but if your pharmacist said it to you then they must be happy enough. They should give you a form which you get your GP to fill out with the meds and that they are needed then you bring back to pharmacy who send it to health board. If HSE agree to pay (they don't always) you'll get s letter in post - bring it to pharmacy who will then be able to supply you with the meds. You will have to pay while you wait for approval which is usually pretty quick in fairness to the HSE

I didn't actually get a prescription, the nurse just wrote the things I was to get on a page, will that matter?

When the pharmacy is sending off the form to get paid they'll need a copy of a prescription to send with it. First step is to get the form from the pharmacy and get your doctor to fill it out
