West of Ireland - Waterford laden timber possible fail?

I noticed 2 loco's in Sallypark freight yard yesterday and only 1 rake of wagons which was 1 of the rakes of the timber wagons.
One loco was a 071 and the other was a 201. Numbers are unknown.
This rake arrives into Waterford on Fri evening from Westport I think and I am just wondering does anyone know if it failed on Friday evening or is there any other explanation for the spare loco in Waterford? Which is very unusual I might add.

The 071 is 078. Maybe the 201 is there with a per way train. The LWR, HOBs and some materials trains have been in and out of Waterford for the past few months.

Rare enough to see a 201 on a par way train. The only one I recall was a 201 on ballast hoppers with vans around the Cork area a few years back. I've never seen or heard of a 201 on HOBs yet.

    This was taken in 2012.

You often see per way workings done by 201s listed in the IRRS journals but there aren't many photos around.

No there was definitely only one rake of timber wagons in the yard, no per way wagons and the CPW's don't come down from Ballina until later on today.
I just thought it was an unusual sight having a spare loco in Sallypark.

16.40 ex Heuston was held for an hour before operating between Muine Bheag and Kilkenny then terminating in Kilkenny because of technical problems on Friday so if it the problem wasn't on the 16.40 it could of being the freight service. It would of allowed a 90 minute window for a 201 to come push the freight into Waterford from Dublin.

Ah the plot thickens. I'd say its safe to presume that the timber train failed and this would explain the 2 loco's being in Sallypark so.
To my knowledge, and I could be corrected here, but "pushing" of trains isn't permitted on Irish Rail network, the timber train would have either had to be hauled back to Muine Bheag for the 201 to run round and then proceed to Waterford, or if the train failed on the Lavistown loop the 201 could gain access to the front end by being routed towards Kilkenny.

I think your correct about pushing however the loco's were at either end of the train in Waterford and both joined up to it. All would suggest that the 071 was in charge and some how the 201 joined the party and suggest no changing or hauling was done.

The only possible option for both loco's being at either side would be they sent the freight to Kilkenny station side of Lavistown and attached a new loco however I don't believe something like this would happen because if they could get it to the loop it would be left until lather in the evening once passenger services cleared and then rescue it. Bus transfers for passenger refunds would cost significantly more than keeping a driver with a train for an hour or two until passenger services finish.
