Mature student looking at Accountancy

    Hi folks,

Have been doing a fair bit of reading up of late and have found answers to most of the questions I had... But still have a couple, if anyone out there might be so kind as to fill me in!

Basically I'm 34 years old, working in the financial services industry the last 10 years. Graduated with a degree in comp science in early 2000s, although have never really used the qualification.

Was looking to study accountancy and was planning on doing the ACCAs, by carrying on working where I am for the moment and doing the studies by night.
However a friend who did the same route a few years ago said if they could do it all over again they would have done one of the ACA big 4 graduate programmes.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this, would the ACA with top 4 be the way to go?
I know it would mean me taking a huge drop in money for the next 3 years or so, but realistically would I be too old to apply for one of these?
When are the closing dates for these usually?

In terms of job prospects once qualified... Would the ACA or ACCA qualification with an IT degree and many years financial experience help me get a reasonably paid position somewhere?
Just conscious as I am married with a mortgage, so couldnt afford to be on the low 20k odd wages for too many years 😊

    Many thanks folks!

    Hi,

If you can get a big 4 graduate position go for it.
