TV issue

Hi I'm wondering where I stand in relation to my 3 month old telly. I bought it in Harvey Normans in November and all was fine.
Then one night all the channels got mixed up or deleted. Fixed this took about a hour to organise the channels and all was fine then it happened about 3-5 more times usually requiring another hour setup time. I have been into lg about this and they have informed me that the issue is with the satellite tuner they say it's not compatible with the Irish market. And I'll have to purchase a set top box to be able to enjoy "hassle free" tv.

I believe this falls under the not fix for purpose part of the sale of goods act

Surly a tv should only have to be tuned once and not 2-3 time a month.

Any info or advice on this would be great
    And thanks in advance

No such thing as the Irish market for satellite, LG tying to pass the blame.

The problem with LG is they aren't freesat TVs but a generic satellite tuner, which means the channels move or need a rescan sometimes rather than a freesat model which will keep everything in it's place.

It lacks a feature, it's not a fault.

But surly the lack of the feature is causing the telly to have a fault and loose it channels

And if it's sold in ireland should it not be fully compatible with the tv signals available here ??

There is no fault in the TV. It's sold with a general tuner, which works fine as a general tuner.

The problem is compatibility with the Freestat signals. Was the TV sold as being compatible with Freesat?

The only signals you're "entitled" to see here is Saorview.

All other services you have to pay for via a satellite dish. The fact that we can receive free satellite signals here from the BBC and ITV etc. is an accident of geography.

If your TV is receiving Saorview without a problem then you have no grounds for complaint.

if the satellite provider change the frquency of channels they will need to be retuned. Freesat boxes and Sky boxes do this automatically, as there EPG is updated by the provider. With generic tuners the end user needs to do this manually.
This does not happen too often with the 'main' channels ( BBC's, ITV's etc), can heppen with the lesser watch channels.
I have a standard generic satellite tuner and dont have to retune very ofter, and then just one or two channels.
Are you losing all your channels, if so there may be a fault

    Hi thanks for replies.

What I'm seeing is I'm fecked in regard the tuner. Even though the sales person said to me it would be fine.

I'm waiting on the lg service guy to call to check telly overand ill report back with their findings.

    .

You have a TV with a satellite tuner - not a Freesat TV - a Freesat TV automatically retunes channels that change frequency (position) and provide a 7 day EPG. It's intended for the UK market, not here. The TV you have is fine; it's just not a Freesat TV. Always do your research before buying a TV - never totally trust a sales guy.

All is not lost. What you need to do is to get to grips with learning how to retune the satellite frequencies on your TV. You'll also need to find out if a channel changes position on a satellite, where to find it again. That, or buy a Freeast tuning box.

Visit the satellite forum for lots of useful info.

It does take a little time to learn, but rather than throw out a perfectly good TV, invest a little time.

As stated above, a Freesat TV automatically updates channel changes. The set you have is not Freesat but a basic Free-To-Air (FTA) tv. However, only the odd lesser satellite channels change frequency and even then only once in a blue moon. It is very rare for the main channels to move and certainly not all at once. If your set is losing them all there is a fault.

EDIT: even if a channel moves, you should only rescan the new frequency for that channel rather than a full scan which will reset everything. See here for a list of FTA satellite details

If it took an hour to organise the channels, then we can take it you definitely have a connection from a satellite dish hooked up? (Didn't notice anyone asking.)

If you are continuously having to retune the tv, then there is something wrong with it, as not all channels change frequency and very few of the worth while to watch channels have actually changed frequency in the past 6-12 months...

Mixed up or deleted in what view? .... a favourites list? the main Satellite list? individual Satellite list?

I believe if you gave a more detailed explanation of what happens the readers would have a better grasp of the problem.

What is the model number of the TV?

LG stop making TV speciality for FreeSat a few years back.
If I am correct the last model was LF77xx series

OP's TV won't be Freesat. The manual for these TVs makes reference to various continental satellite services iirc.

Harvey Norman do not mention the satellite tuner in their adverts. Neither, I suspect do most Irish & UK retailers selling these LGs, so unless the salespeople in the shops point it out or, buyers discover it themselves, it could go unnoticed.

That's not to say that it shouldn't work as well as any other generic FTA satellite receiver, assuming the satellite tuner is actually in use in this case.

Rubbish. You are entitled to see anything that is free to air that you can receive.
