    Hi,

I've got an old Del 5150 which can installed with XP. Subsequently I've installed a dual boot system with Lubuntu.

The machine is old and and I'm wondering what my best way forward is in order to improve it.

The only thing is that the mach ine is really only for internet usage and some home working (which is done via remote login, so again basically internet access).

Both XP and Lubuntu have got into a bit of a mess and a reinstall is required in order to freshen and speed things up.

I like the idea of building my own PC, but I'm not sure if this is a feasible option considering all it is being used for. It seems that this is only being done by those looking for something specific or high end.
Modding this one, would be another way, but I'm not sure how to go about it or whether I just build a new hard drive preloaded with an OS - although I doubt there would be any now that would be compatible with the hardware on my PC.
So, is the only sensible option for me to go out and buy a a new PC? A project would be nice, but I'm not looking to throw money away if unnecessary/unfeasible.

    Thanks.

I cant really help you with upgrading the old dell, from a quick check on adverts they seem to sell for about €50-80. There are a few lads here that have much better knowledge of older machines than me. Hopefully one of them can chime in if its worth upgrading,if not you could sell it and put the money towards a build it yourself project.

You could realistically build a pc perfectly capable of doing what you need for circa €450 if internet and basic word processing is all thats needed.

Could be a nice project and wouldnt cost an arm and a leg
