Well lads, was talking to a neighbour today about meal and he said he recently started getting it off a new crowd and was wondering how it compared to where I'm getting it, mine is 13% protein finishing nut and his is 12.8%, I presume a finishing nut as he finishes bullocks too, anyway he gave me his docket to compare to the stuff I had so I said I'd post the two up to see what ye think, from my opinion the ingredients in mine are a bit better from the beginning, both are the same price also

The second one is the better ration imo. Wouldn't really like a ration with soya hulls as the largest component certainly indoors for finishing.

i had the same thought myself, the green one is paul and vincents nut, which i get, the other is roches finishing nut form limerick, exact same price of 240/t blown in

I'd have a preference for rations with a small ingredient list.

That's very true. Wheat/barley, soya, rapeseed, distillers, maize meal, soya hulls, citrus/beet pulp, molasses. Any four of the above should be enough to formulate any ration.

who or where can you get barley blown in at a reasonable price?I tried to get aprice on it earlier on and the co-op and a merchant wanted as much for it as their beef ration.

well you must be from limerick given your username

dan o connor or roches or crecora mills would deliver it to you

if you are buying 3.5 tonne or more you should be getting it for 200 a tonne delivered !

They both look pretty sh1te to me. How are the cattle performing? The first one has barley as the most plentiful ingredient, but has palm kernal in the list too. The other one has soya hulls as the main ingredient, it's a bit like paying 240 a ton for straw. What % native cereals have you?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Just looking at the gross and tare weights, what sort of viechle weighs 4.8 ton? Not many places would drive onto the bridge, drop the trailer, remove truck, weigh load, hookup truck, load feed, drive onto bridge full, unhook truck, weigh trailer, hookup truck again and drive off.

Am I missing something here? It has been a long day for me....most artics I weigh are 17 ton empty, would a rigid with 37ton be 4.8 unloaded?

    Maize 40%
    Barley 20%
    Distellers 20%
    Soya hulls 20%
Minera's etc would come to more than 100% but you get the idea

hl maize beef ration 1 Barley 2 Maize[23%] 3Maize Gluten feed 4 Soya hulls 5Flaked Maize 6 Oats 7Distillers dried grains 8 Beet pulp 9 molasses ,Rumen buffer calcium carbonate.sodium chloride.digestibility enhancers. 235 euro for that list

    Barley 70%
    distillers 10%
    Maize Meal 15%
    Mollasses 5%
Also throw about 100gm per head /day of sodium bicarbonate in mix.
Feed 10kgs/head /day this ration mixed with 10kgs decent silage and approx .25kgs straw.

I am adlibing so also adding yeast to the ration myself it's costing about an extra 11cent a head a day

Would you not consider a little more straw I always aim for 1 kg

    Like the oats
But never fond of molasses it's good stuff but it weighs well in a ration any more than 2% is just money for miller
Love soya but costly at the min will add 10% next month at the expense of 5% maize and 5% distellers because I'll start feeding younger bulls

When feeding ad lib meal we always leave barley straw at their heads. Helps keeps their guts/digestion right and allows them to properly utilise the meal.
I would not be a fan of feeding silage with large amounts of meal.

Barley, flaked maize, ground maize, distillers, corn gluten, citrus pulp, soya hulls, molasses, flaked beans. Barley and maize are making up 50%. Also mins, buffer and yeast. €245/ton in half ton bag collected.
